FAQ'S

Why do you offer the All-Inclusive program options?

For several years, we have been asked the question, “how much?” and our reply would have to be “well that depends on you”. This is a very fair and honest answer, but unfortunately it’s not what a potential client wants to hear. So, we decided to meet the client half-way and came up with our “All Inclusive” options for both the Private Pilot and Sport Pilot certificates. We designed these programs to take the guesswork out of what could otherwise be a confusing process. We built this program to be a step-by-step process that anyone can follow, with the added benefit of not worrying about how to pay for the next lesson. Sometimes we get clients that dable with their flight training, and for those clients, the “pay as you go option is for them. Our All-Inclusive programs are designed for the serious client that wants to complete their course in a timely manner with no surprises.

Why should I choose Fly Eagle Sport’s “All Inclusive Program” vs other schools?

There are several reasons. Most other schools advertise pricing that includes only your minimum required flight hours (FAA minimums: 20 hours- Sport Pilot, 40- Private Pilot) and flight instruction. They don’t include tests, insurance, materials, home study courses, etc. These hidden costs delay, and thereby threaten completion. We include everything you will want and need to complete your license. Our commitment to our students is seen in the value we provide.

Why should I choose Fly Eagle Sport’s “All Inclusive Program” instead of the pay-as-you-go option?

It’s very unfortunate, but the truth of the matter is that industry wide, 80% of students pilots don’t complete their training. There are many reasons for falling short of ones checkride, but most of the time it comes down to two things: the lack of funds to complete their training and shifting priorities on a long timeline. These shifting priorities put flight training on the back burner, leading to putting off training, which results in poor training retention, and results in many students never completing their training. Wasted time. Wasted money. Unmet goals. We have a solution. By paying upfront, we eliminate 80% of the issues that most people have. It’s a commitment in time and money, and it shows us that you fully intend to complete your training. The financial pressure has been eliminated so all you have to do is keep focused on your studying. The course is designed to GET YOU DONE with our proven effective method.

Should I go for a Sport Pilot Certificate, or a Private Pilot Certificate?

That depends on what your end goal is for your flight training. If all you want to do is obtain a pilot certificate to achieve a life-long goal, fly during the day with a loved one and experience flight at your leisure, then the Sport Pilot certificate may be the right choice for you. If you would like to fly at night, fly a wide range of airplanes, or make flying a career then obtaining your Private Pilot Certificate would be the better choice. Flight time with either certificate will allow you to obtain higher ratings or even become a sport pilot instructor if that’s of interest!

Why should I learn in the Remos GX vs the typical Cessna, or Piper airplane?

Cessna and Piper aircraft are fantastic airplanes, but they are basically the same design first produced in the 60s. The average cost of the more often rented 1970-1980s trainers are about $125.00/hr in the Phoenix area. The newest models perform about the same as the originals but costs even more per hour to rent. We provide our modern Remos for $110/hr. Their performance is slightly better than these older four place aircraft and will absolutely blow away the equivalent two place trainers. Our aircraft are 2008/2009 models featuring Dynon glass flight decks (computerized flight instruments) and Garmin GPS and radios, making them easy to use and fun to fly! They’re made from modern composite materials, yet they are simple by design.

What are the sport pilot eligibility requirements?

For the sport pilot certificate, you must: Be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old if you are applying to operate a glider or balloon), be able to read, speak, write, and understand English, and have a current and valid U.S. driver’s license for medical qualification.

What is a Light Sport Aircraft?

A light-sport aircraft is defined as:

  • 1,320 pounds maximum takeoff weight for aircraft not intended for operation on water; or
  • 1,430 pounds maximum takeoff weight for aircraft intended for operation on water.
  • A maximum seating capacity of no more than two persons, including the pilot.
  • A single, reciprocating engine.
  • A fixed or ground-adjustable propeller if a powered aircraft other than a powered glider.
  • A nonpressurized cabin, if equipped with a cabin.
  • Maximum airspeed of 120 knots in level flight.
  • Fixed landing gear, except for an aircraft intended for operation on water or a glider.
  • Fixed or repositionable landing gear, or a hull, for an aircraft intended for operation on water.
  • A maximum stalling speed or minimum steady flight speed without the use of lift-enhancing devices (Vs1) of not more than 45 knots CAS at the aircraft’s maximum certificated takeoff weight and most critical center of gravity.

What is a Light Sport Pilot Certificate?

The Light Sport Certificate came into law in 2004 and was intended to be a simplified pilot certificate designed to reduce complexity and costs for those seeking a basic pilot certificate for personal recreational-type flying. You can add additional aircraft and airspace privileges with additional training to suit your flying needs. The Light Sport program is probably one of aviation’s best kept secrets, which is a shame because so many people could realize their dream of being a pilot if only they knew how affordable it can be!

I don’t have perfect vision. Can I still fly?

Yes, as long as your vision is good enough to drive a car, its good enough to be a light sport pilot.

I’ve finally achieved a time in my life that I can finally take flying lessons, but I’m a hundred years old! Can I still fly?

Okay, so maybe this question was a bit sarcastic, but we do get folks in retirement that would love to realize their long awaited dream of becoming a pilot. There is no cap on the age to become a pilot. If you are able-bodied, medically fit to drive, willing and able to learn, and can physically get in and out of the aircraft, then welcome aboard captain!

I’m not old enough to drive a car. Can I take flying lessons?

Yes! You sure can, and we encourage youngsters to fly. Flying takes many academic lessons learned in school and allows you to apply them to something fun and exciting.

I hear you talk about a “Pilot Certificate”. What’s the difference between a Pilot Certificate and a Pilot License?

Many people refer to the pilot certificate as a “pilot license”, these terms are often used interchangeably. The difference is that a certificate never expires whereas a license does. This means that once a pilot certificate is earned, it’s good forever! This is why obtaining a pilot certificate is considered a great investment into yourself. Completing your flight training will introduce a new and exciting skill set that will enrichen your life and you will have proof of your experience that will be with you always.

Where do you fly?

Our Remos airplanes are located at Glendale Airport (KGEU) in Glendale, AZ. Our Six Chuter Powered Parachute is located at Pleasant Valley Airport (P48) in Peoria, AZ.

A sport pilot may:

  • Share the operating expenses of a flight with a passenger, provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenses, or aircraft rental fees. A sport pilot must pay at least half the operating expenses of the flight.
  • A sport pilot may NOT act as pilot-in-command of a light-sport aircraft that is carrying a passenger, or property for compensation or hire
  • available for compensation or hire.
  • In furtherance of a business.
  • While carrying more than one passenger.
  • At night.
  • In Class A airspace.
  • In Class B, C, or D airspace, at an airport located in Class B, C, or D airspace, and to, from, through, or at an airport having an operational control tower unless you have met the requirements specified in §61.325.

  • In a passenger-carrying airlift sponsored by a charitable organization.
  • At an altitude of more than 10,000 feet MSL or 2,000 feet AGL.
  • When the flight or surface visibility is less than 3 statute miles.
  • Without visual reference to the surface.
  • If the aircraft has a maximum forward speed in level flight that exceeds 87 knots CAS, unless having met the requirements of §61.327.
  • If the aircraft has a maximum forward speed less than or equal to 87 knots CAS, unless you have met the requirements of §61.327(a) or have logged flight time as pilot in command of an airplane with a maximum forward speed less than or equal to 87 knots CAS before April 2, 2010.
  • Contrary to any limitation or endorsement on your pilot certificate, airman medical certificate, U.S. driver’s license, or any other limitation or logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor.
  • Contrary to any restriction or limitation on the sport pilot’s U.S. driver’s license or any restriction or limitation imposed by judicial or administrative order when using a driver’s license to satisfy the requirements of Part 61.
  • While towing any object.
  • As a pilot flight crewmember on any aircraft for which more than one pilot is required by the type certificate of the aircraft or the regulations under which the flight is conducted.

Why should I consider aviation as my career?

In a nutshell, There is a very strong growing demand! Post 9-11 was a difficult time for aviation, pay scales were down and the industry was in a recession. But now is the “perfect storm” as the baby boomers that have been flooding the airlines are now hitting mandatory retirement age! This is forcing thousands of pilots EACH year to retire from the airlines. The vacuum from this alone will be nearly impossible to keep up with at the current rate we are producing domestic pilots. Pay scales have been brought back to attractive levels by the demand of the pilot unions now that airlines are seeing record profits for the first time in many years.

The airlines are in a steady growth and more planes are already on order across the board for future demands, requiring even more pilots. The good news is that no matter what your goal is; airlines, corporate, teaching, or other sector… there will be a need, a BIG one at that!

Why choose Eagle Sport for my aviation career program?

At Eagle Sport we have an advantage unlike old-school flight training organizations like academies and college programs- SPORT PILOT. We have the ability to provide you with more flying hours per dollar than ANYONE because we incorporate the sport pilot rules with our professional pilot training course. What does this mean to you? You will become a pilot with less money spent and can even earn money while training! Yes, we can get you flying as a sport pilot instructor making an income while your peers in the other pro-pilot programs are busy shoveling out their money for flight hours.

What exactly is your Pro-Pilot Core Program?

Our Professional Pilot Program consists of the four core courses in systematic order that will qualify you to work as a pilot in the entry level aviation markets. The courses are, in order, Private Pilot – Instrument – Sport Pilot Instructor – Commercial Pilot. We offer these as “modular courses”.

What can I do after the Pro-Pilot Core Program?

Once you have your SEL-Commercial Certificate you can continue on with additional airplane and instructor ratings, i.e. multi-engine, seaplane, certified flight instructor, instrument flight instructor, powered parachute instructor, Airline Transport Pilot, etc.

Or you may want to pursue jobs that only require what you have after this course, for example, flying skydivers, towing banners, towing gliders, sight seeing tours, instructing, pipeline inspections, etc. We feel that each client has different goals and aspirations, so we would consult with you individually to see what course of action will best meets your goals once this core program is completed.

Yeah, that’s great and all, but your competition said they can get me done faster because they have a 141 flight school that gives them a reduced hour program.

That’s true, sort of. A Part 141 approved program allows a school to reduce the time per course. But lets see how that works out in the “real world” using the first step of your training- Private Pilot. Under Part 141 they can cut 5 hours off from the Part 61 minimums from 40 to 35 total flight hours. But they probably didn’t tell you that the national average is about 55 hours for a private pilot certificate anyway. So even being a super sharp student, lets say you’re ready for your checkride at 45 hours (the standards are the same regardless of the program you learn under). So what are you saving?… Nothing, it actually costs you more because their airplanes and instruction will cost more per hour than ours.

Can you conduct instrument training in your Remos Light Sport Airplane?

Why, yes we can! The Remos comes standard with a basic “IFR” instrument panel in the Aviator II package. Training and filing IFR is authorized. The airplane is prohibited from flying in actual instrument conditions (IMC) due to certification limitations. This is a non-issue in Arizona because actual instrument conditions in this area are rare, and usually hazardous, keeping most flight school aircraft on the ground.

How do you keep costs down in your professional pilot program?

We use modern airplanes that are very efficient and are meant for teaching. They have two seats for a student and instructor. Most schools these days use four seat airplanes which in turn need more powerful/thirsty engines to operate, which costs more both directly and indirectly. Our planes have similar performance without the waste… which equates to cost savings that we can pass to you, our student/client. We also offer discounts for block purchases of hours. The more you buy, the more you save!

Why is your ground instruction reduced compared to other programs?

News flash: Its 2020 people! We use technology to create a comfortable learning experience using online courses and resources. This allows your face-to-face instructor interaction to be used to enforce lessons and answer course material questions, limiting the need of more costly instructional ground time. This allows our clients to learn in an environment that’s most suitable for them, but as always, classroom instruction can be added for an additional cost if needed.

So how does your Sport Pilot program really give me an advantage?

Ask anyone who has tried to build those hours towards their commercial pilot certificate (250 hours under part 61) and they will tell you, its not easy or cheap! Well you’re in luck, we have a better answer! After you complete the Private Pilot and Instrument Courses you will be around 120 hours of flight time and quite comfortable and familiar with our Remos Airplanes. That’s when its time to make you into a Sport Pilot Instructor!

You can be an instructor under the Light Sport rules at only 150 hours total time, about half the time of a standard CFI. Now you can teach the basics of flight to sport pilot students and conduct introductory flights allowing you to build time towards your commercial requirements while MAKING money, this sport pilot advantage alone can potentially save you thousands, maybe even tens of thousands of dollars over other programs. This is the game changer to those that want to make flying a career without sacrificing their first born to the banks.

But these other 141 programs can close the flight hours gap to the commercial and ATP

Here’s the thing that the those guys don’t want to tell you. IT DOESN’T MATTER. Whats the goal here? Getting you hired by getting you the flight time you need. Even the most recognized names in the industry have their students walking out of the doors with only about 300 hours and many of their students with over a hundred thousand dollars of debt! With our program we have fun and affordable ways to put time in your log book to position you for the job you want.

Your airplanes are Light Sport Airplanes, is that flight time less valuable in my logbook?

When logging time in a Remos, Cessna, Piper, etc its all the same category and class of aircraft! The time logged will read ASEL= Airplane- Single Engine Land. So beyond that, you’ll want to check whatever additional boxes you can. Fortunately for you, our airplanes have “technically advanced flightdecks”. This means that we fly with modern technology in our instrument panels, similar to that used in the airlines. This is an added value when applying to jobs that have modern aircraft. More flight schools are catching up with this technology trend, but will usually charge more for you to fly behind an “EFIS” equipped airplane. I would challenge you to see what they charge for this upgrade and realize that this is included in our already low rental price.

This program is just what I’m looking for! Is there anyway I can save more?

Yes! We appreciate your business and are happy to reward you with a discount when buying block rental hours on our aircraft. Contact us at info@FlyEagleSport.com for our block rate specials.

Is there a way to finance my flight training?

Yes, AOPA has this option through their financial services. Click here to find out more!
